Bridgestone, Michelin to present rCB findings at Smithers conference

TOKYO and CLERMONT-FERRAND, France—After a year of working with stakeholders in the recovered carbon black community, following the call to action at last year's Smithers Recovered Carbon Black conference, Bridgestone and Michelin are ready to present their findings.

The two global tire makers will deliver a joint presentation at this year's Smithers rCB conference in Berlin, Nov. 16, to share the results of their work "to develop a proposed global standard to increase the utilization of recovered carbon black material in tires."

This presentation follows the release of the two companies' position paper on the joint initiative that was released earlier this year.

"Globally, 1 billion tires, representing around 30 million tons of materials, are estimated to reach the end of their useful service life every year," Bridgestone said in a Nov. 11 news release.

"Many of the technical challenges surrounding the use of recycled and recovered materials from end-of-life tires (ELT) are understood, but barriers remain toward achieving material circularity at the scale necessary to realize a more sustainable mobility ecosystem."
