Circular Economy for the Composites Industry
Retaining the economic value and embedded energy of materials in the economy as long as possible is the essence of circular economy thinking. The composites industry has some awkward waste streams. Composites themselves combine two or more materials to produce properties superior to the individual components. This makes them inherently stiff, strong and durable, and inherently difficult to recycle. Other wastes from our industry include dry fibres, consumable materials and packaging of various sorts.
This event will present recent developments in end of life solutions for carbon and glass fibre composites and other wastes generated in the manufacturing supply chain for composites. Presentations will include university research through to practical end of life solutions and a call for the industry to play its part to design for end of life, optimise waste management practice and take up opportunities to use recycled material in high value products.
