Carpet recycling group honors individuals, companies in diversion efforts

A voluntary effort aimed at promoting the recycling, reusing and diverting used carpeting from landfills is recognizing the efforts of both people and companies in the effort.

Carpet America Recovery Effort, or CARE, is naming award winners for the past two years as part of the non-profit organization's annual conference.

Last year's gathering was canceled due to COVID-19. But the group "did not want to skip recognizing a year's worth of carpet recycling successes. So at this year's virtual conference, we are giving awards to the companies and individuals that have worked tirelessly to advance the carpet recycling industry in the face of recent economic and social challenges," CARE Executive Director Bob Peoples said in a statement.

The 2019 Recycler of the Year is Circular Polymers LLC.

"A rising star in the chemical recycling world, Circular Polymers' disruptive technology transforms post- consumer discarded carpet into new polymer raw materials for use by multiple industries. Their newly expanded facility in Lincoln, Calif., can process some 45 million pounds of carpet per year, with plans to expand further," CARE said.

Peoples said Circular Polymers, formed in 2018, has grown into a major carpet recycler in a short period of time.

The 2020 Recycler of the Year is Rise Composite Technologies.
