Honeywell, Avangard form JV to build chemical recycling plant

Honeywell and Avangard Innovative will form a new joint venture to build a new advanced recycling plant in Texas, the companies announced Jan. 27. Avangard, the largest plastics recycler in the Americas, will be the first to operate a plant using Honeywell’s UpCycle Process technology in the U.S.

According to Honeywell, the UpCycle Process technology can handle waste plastics that today would otherwise go unrecycled, including colored, flexible, multilayered packaging and polystyrene. When used in conjunction with other chemical and mechanical recycling processes -- along with improvements to collection and sorting – the technology has the potential to increase the amount of global plastic waste that can be recycled to 90 percent, up from 15 percent today.
